Name: Cadee Baker
Sport: Softball
Position: Infielder
Year: Sophomore
Hometown: Downers Grove
High School: Downers Grove South High School
Lily Goodfellow: When did you start playing softball?
Cadee Baker: I don’t know exactly. I’ve been playing my whole life. I want to say it was around third grade that I started.
LG: Your sister played for COD and is now one of the assistant coaches. How has that influenced you as a player?
CB: She definitely is one of my biggest role models, growing up and watching her play. Now, her being one of my coaches, I think that helps more because she is always looking at me now and I don’t have to tell her to watch me. We do get on each other’s nerves, but it’s just part of being sisters.
LG: What has been your favorite memory playing for COD?
CB: I liked playing against Harper [College] last year, which was my freshman year. We were in a really long game. It was like three hours and it was a pretty high scoring game. I want to say it was like 20 to something. I was just so incredibly tired, but we ended up winning. So, I think that was just really fun.
LG: What commitment does it take to be a student athlete?
CB: Definitely focusing on homework is the biggest priority. And then focusing on softball. I know for my coach, he understands if we want to focus on school and then go into softball. But it can affect my outside life too. I have a job and I have to call off once in a while to make games or practices, but that’s just the sacrifice I have to make.
LG: Who has been your biggest supporter?
CB: Either my sister Carly or my dad. I feel like they always show up for me, and are always giving me corrections and wanting me to get better.
LG: Do you enjoy any other sports?
CB: For fun, I like to play volleyball and pickleball. But softball was my main sport growing up. I never really did anything else.
LG: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
CB: I like to draw. I’m a hairstylist, so I like to do hair a lot.
LG: What are you most looking forward to this summer?
CB: I’m looking forward to spending time with my friends and family. Hopefully getting together with some of the girls on the team to play some catch now that I’ll be retired after this season.
LG: Where do you see yourself in five years?
CB: I see myself living on my own, finally, and being a successful hairstylist. And hopefully coaching softball.
LG: What one word best describes you?
CB: The one word that best describes me would probably be hardworking.
LG: That’s awesome. Thank you very much.
CB: Thank you!
