The College of DuPage (8-19) women’s basketball team played a game against the Kankakee Community College Chevaliers (18-9) on Feb. 12. COD entered this game with only seven members of the team present, as some members were injured before the game.
The Chaps were dominating the first quarter, with both teams fighting for control of the game. They shared small leads until the first quarter ended 18-25 for Kankakee.
The second quarter started and Kankakee started to take control of the court with the score being 29-51 at halftime. COD still had some time left to overturn the game.
Unfortunately, the Chaps couldn’t build any momentum to try to make a comeback and soon lost 59-85, bringing their record to 8-20 for the season.
Head coach Kristin Ison said the team lost steam after the first quarter.
“We cooled off in the second quarter so we weren’t able to really get a lot of points, ” Ison said. “And [The Cavaliers] were shooting lights out.”
Going forward, Ison said the team will focus on consistency with their shooting. She mentioned it was a difficult game for the Chaps because of the amount of injuries plaguing the team.
“We only had probably about four players healthy,” Ison said. “I thought for our situation, we did pretty well. But I think with the short numbers, we just ran out of gas.”
Coach Ison then ended it with how she is preparing the team to be ready for the last home game of the season: mentally prepare, physically prepare and reset the team’s mindset.
“[The team] worked extremely hard this season and if we can just focus on ending the season with all our best efforts,” she said.
The Chaps will play their last home game of the season against the South Suburban College Bulldogs (8-18) on Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. for Sophomore Day. They will then go on the road to finish the season at Crystal Lake, IL, against the McHenry County College Scots (6-21) on Feb. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
