The College of DuPage track team traveled to Bourbonnais, Ill. to compete at the Olivet Nazarene Invite on Jan. 31. The meet included season bests, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) indoor and outdoor qualifiers and two school records broken in pole vault.
On the men’s side, William Kallas had a record breaking season best in the pole vault where he cleared 5.00 meters and won the competition. Kallas qualified for the NJCAA indoor track championship in March.
Peter Ogunleye had a standout performance in high jump with a mark of 1.77 meters. He also competed in long jump and placed ninth with a mark of 5.97.
Dionte Shaw, Daniel Taiwo and Jai’shawn Morris had strong showings in the throwing events where Shaw placed fifth in shot put with a 15.11 meter mark, Taiwo placed sixth with a 14.99 meter mark and Morris finished eighth with a 14.88 meter mark. Taiwo also led the Chaparrals in weight throw with an eighth place finish and a mark of 14.37 meters.
On the women’s side, Kailee Rodeck broke the school record in the pole vault and won the meet with a mark of 3.58. Rodeck qualified for the NJCAA indoor track championships in March.
Klaudia Sztafa and Micah Gates both qualified for the 60-meter final and finished fifth and seventh overall with times of 8.34 and 8.49
Agata Valuzis and Allison Browne also qualified for the 60-meter hurdle final and finished fifth and eighth overall with times of 10.37 and 10.93.
Sztafa, Browne and Gates also rounded out the top ten in the 200-meter run finishing third, seventh and tenth with times of 28.10, 28.69 and 29.08 respectively.
Elena Kosorog and Samantha Blankenship placed fifth and seventh in the mile running 6:03.01 and 6:12.25.
Brainne Davis led the way in throws placing fifth in weight throw with a mark of 13.80 meters and placing 10 in shot put with a mark of 9.94 meters.
The College of DuPage track team will travel to Allendale Mich. to compete in the Mike Lints Open at Grand Valley State University on Feb. 7.
