This week marks the return of homecoming to College of DuPage after a 39-year hiatus.

The community college’s first homecoming happened Oct. 25 to Oct. 26, 1968. According to Courier archives, students showcased their pride participated during a “mixer-pep-rally” at the DuPage County Fairgrounds on Friday, Oct. 25, 1968. The following day, the Chaparrals faced the Wright Rams, played on West Chicago High School’s field. Unfortunately, the Rams obliterated the Chaparrals, 27-0. The day was capped off by a dinner dance with the theme, “Autumn by Moonlight.” More than 200 couples attended the dinner.

We looked through Courier archives to find pictures from the first few homecomings, between the years of 1968 and 1971. Look at the individual pictures below.

Nanci Alumbaugh served as homecoming queen in 1969. According to Courier reports, she was the captain of the cheerleading squad.
