- #Oscars – “Birdman” took home the trophy for Best Picture on Feb. 22. Julianne Moore won Best Actress for her portrayal of a woman with the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease in “Still Alice.” Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor for playing ALS- stricken physicist Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything.” Other winners included “Big Hero 6” for Best Animated Feature and the song “Glory” from the Best Picture nominated “Selma.”
- #NYFW – The stars came out in New York as the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week went on in New York this week. Fashion lovers got a preview of what they could expect to see in stores, or at least in magazines, this fall. Notably, rapper Kanye West presented his first fashion show with Adidas. Critics referred to West’s line as “Hunger Games Chic.”
- #SiberianExpress – A blast of cold air huddled over the U.S. this week leaving 22 people dead from hypothermia, with two victims in Illinois. Illinois saw lows of -16 degrees in southern Illinois. Chicago Public Schools and City Colleges of Chicago cancelled classes. COD, however, did not close school.
- #WesleyeanOD- In college news, 10 students of a Connecticut liberal arts college, Wesleyan University, were hospitalized after an apparent MDMA, or “Molly” overdose Feb. 21. Officials say the students had ingested a “bad batch” of the drugs and are looking into where the drug originated from.
