Time to answer the call of the Zombie once again. Singer-songwriter Rob Zombie is getting fans excited for his upcoming eighth studio album, “The Great Satan,” releasing Friday, Feb. 27.
“The Great Satan” is introducing 16 new songs to Rob Zombie’s discography. For Rob Zombie fans who enjoy his old-school style of heavy industrial metal, especially his album “Hillbilly Deluxe,” you are in luck! Based on the three singles already released, it sounds as if Rob Zombie is returning to his roots.
The first single on “The Great Satan” was released in Oct. 2025 to create anticipation for the upcoming album. The song, “Punks and Demons,” gave fans a promising glimpse of the new album’s sound. People who may not be familiar with Rob Zombie might not fully appreciate the song. The song opens with the lyrics “Satan! Satan! Satan!” combined with industrial sounds, like ominous keyboards, guitar and drum sounds. But for people who know and enjoy Rob Zombie’s work, this song will provoke familiar feelings. The song maintains a heavy sound throughout, with no time to catch your breath in the best way possible. It is a strong teaser to the album, which will have you sing the catchy chorus: “Punks and demons! Satan! Satan!”
The next single, “Heathen Day,” was released Nov. 2025. What is most notable about this song is the fast-paced metallic and static sound, which hits you all throughout. It maintains the heaviness, which gives listeners a pretty clear idea of the common sound of the album. “Heathen Days” is a short track of 2:17, but it is a fast-paced and exciting song to listeners who are in a jumpy mood.
The last single, which came out before the upcoming album, “(I’m a) Rock N’ Roller” was released in January of this year. As the other songs were fast-paced, this song took the beat a little slower while still retaining a heavy and staticky sound. It was a nice song to release in addition to the other songs, as it shows the different styles and tempos of songs this album is speculated to use.
The “Great Satan” touches base with Rob Zombie’s earlier album “Hellbilly Deluxe” from 1997, according to a Blabbermouth music article. This is mostly because bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson made the first album with the band in 20 years. Revolver music magazine informs fans that Blasko was in the band from when Rob Zombie began in 1997 and left in 2006. He rejoined the group in January 2024. “The Great Satan” is the first studio album Blasko worked on since “Educated Horses” was released in 2005.
With Blasko rejoining the band and working with a modern-day Rob Zombie, “The Great Satan” is bound to return to the original Rob Zombie sounds.
Rob Zombie has proven to be a successful artist throughout his career. Although he has not released an album since “The Lunar Injunction Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy” in 2021, which got a variety of different ratings from critics, but was “generally favorable,” according to Metacritic. The album had hits such as “The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition)” and “The Satanic Rites of Blacucula.”
Even though Rob Zombie has not released hits more popular than the hits from his earlier albums, like “Dragula,” “Living Dead Girl” or “Superbeast, he is still a consistent artist. According to music magazine Loudwire, Zombie received a nomination at the 64th annual Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance in 2022. The nomination was for Zombie’s performance of “The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition).”
Not to mention when Rob Zombie headlined for Riot Fest in 2024 on the third day. Riot Fest is an annual 3-day music festival in Chicago, which features a variety of ninety or more different artists in punk, rock, alternative and metal music. Headlining for Riot Fest means being a strong enough artist to be one of the main attractions for the festival.
Rob Zombie is touring and headlining his own show with Marilyn Manson this year starting Aug.12 through Sep. 27. They will be performing at Tinley Park Sept. 5. See all the locations and dates on Rob Zombie’s official website.
Based on the songs released so far, “The Great Satan” has the potential to be the best Rob Zombie album since “Hillbilly Deluxe.” With the return of both Blasko and the sound of early Rob Zombie, it has fans anticipating how the rest of the album turns out.
