Name: Braylen Meredith
Sport: Basketball
Position: Guard Forward
Year: Sophomore
Hometown: Wheaton
High School: Wheaton Warrenville South
LG: When did you start playing basketball?
BM: I started playing basketball probably at 6 or 7 years old. I had a Little Tykes hoop ever since I was a little three-year-old. But I really took football more seriously growing up. And then I switched to basketball my senior year in high school.
LG: Have you dealt with any injuries and how has that changed you as a person?
BM: I have not had any injuries. But I’ve played a lot of games and I’ve been around the block, so I know the game pretty well.
LG: What keeps you motivated during a game, especially one when your team is losing?
BM: What helps me is I stay calm and I always think positive. I keep thinking that I know we’re going to come back, we’re going to grit our teeth and play hard because that’s what we do.
LG: What are your plans after COD?
BM: My plan after COD is to play college basketball. I’m just not sure where yet. Schools have been talking to me, so that’s a good thing, and we’re going to see where it takes me.
LG: You’ve been named player of the year for DuPage County, DuKane conference and more. What do you think is your greatest accomplishment so far?
BM: One of my best accomplishments here at COD was probably breaking the school scoring record last year with 47 points. This year I’m looking to be All-American, which I’m on pace for, and I’m also very close to 1,000 points in my COD career.
LG: Do you have any favorite inspirational quotes?
BM: Not really. I just kind of stay calm and let the game come to me.
LG: What is your favorite food?
BM: I have to say steak or Mexican food, like tacos.
LG: What’s your idea of a perfect weekend?
BM: My idea of a perfect weekend is maybe driving down to Chicago, going down Lake Shore Drive and then chilling on the beach for the day.
LG: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
BM: If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would probably be the western United States because I’ve never been out there. So maybe Yellowstone, Yosemite, and see some national parks. I have been out of the country, I’ve been to Mexico. I’m part Mexican. So I really want to see somewhere I haven’t been, like the western part of the United States.
LG: What one word best describes you?
BM: One word that best describes me is passionate. I am very passionate about things and I’m very competitive. So whenever there’s a competition, I’m always going to try to be the best. I don’t want to let anyone outplay me.
LG: Thank you very much, Braylen!
BM: Thank you.
