For those of you who did not get a chance to watch the 48th annual CMA Awards last night, no need to worry. Here is an overview of what happened last night, but if you don’t want to see who won, then I would advise you don’t read this it is a spoiler.

For the seventh year in a row, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood hosted the award show, and as usual it was absolutely hilarious. They usually open with an opening skit poking fun at some of the artist that are there. But in particular they made fun of now pop artist Taylor Swift. They said that they had been suffering from “Postpartum Taylor Swift disorder” making fun of the fact that she has left country music.

Before Paisley and Underwood took the stage, Kenny Chesney was the opening act of the evening performing his latest single “American Kids.” Followed by Chesney, Miranda Lambert and Meghan Trainor teamed up and sung a duet of Trainor’s song “All About That Bass.” Personally, I didn’t like that they did that. Trainor is clearly not a country artist and she was performing at a country music award show. Even though they compromised the song so sound more country, I thought it was unnecessary.

Miranda Lambert took the most amounts of awards last night, winning single of the year, album of the year and female vocalist of the year. It’s always nice to see an artist’s work get appreciated, but I wished they’re more of a variety of winners. Even though Swift is no longer apart of country music, she was still nominated in the female vocalist of the year award category. I’m glad she didn’t win, seeing that she wasn’t even there, and the fact that she is no longer country. Im just confused as to why she was even nominated in the first place.

Here are the list of categories, nominees and winners from last night.

There were lots of good performances last night, if I counted correctly there was a total of 19. As I said before, Kenney Chesney opened. A few performances after him, Florida Georgia Line performed their new popular song “Dirt.” Keith Urban followed them and sang “Somewhere in my Car.” Later, Tim McGraw sung his beautiful new song “Shotgun Rider,” a song that shows the love he feels for his wife Faith Hill. Then, Dierks Bentley performed his very popular single “Drunk on a plane.” His performance was amazing. I saw him in concert where he also performed this song, and it was still great.
Some more performances consisted of Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan Blake Shelton, George Strait and Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves and more.

Overall, it was a great award show; lots of amazing artists got rewarded for their hard work and dedication to country music. All the performances were amazing and I can’t wait to see what the next year has to bring for country music.
