The McAnich Arts Center at the College of DuPage has released its schedule of events for the 2019-2020 year Thursday The jam-packed year has various types of entertainment, notably the lead up to the much anticipated Frida Kahlo exhibit, coming to the Cleve Carney Museum of Art in the summer of 2020. The performances and events range from family events, dance, theater productions and more. 

To start out the season, the Buffalo Theater Ensemble presents: Holmes and Watson, running from Sept. 5-Oct.6. “Three Years following the mysterious “death” of Sherlock Holmes in Reichenbach Falls, there have been many who claimed to be Holmes, all de-bunked as imposters by the faithful partner of the sleuth, Watson,” the description reads. “But now three seperate men insist that they are the infamous literary master, having survived that encounter at the falls.”  

This show is an adventure/mystery from the award winning playwright Jeffrey Hatcher. Tickets are $42. 

On Sept. 8, the MAC will host “Frida Fest.” This event is the kick off for a year full of celebration for the upcoming exhibit. This event runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lakeside Pavilion and includes visual art, authentic Mexican food, dance from Ballet Folkolrico Quetzalcoatl, with headliner ARTRAGEOUS! Admission to this event is free. 

The “Year of Frida” program also includes “Mexico Beyond Mariachi: SUGAR SKULL! A Día De Los Muertos Musical Adventure” on Oct. 4, “Ballet Folclórico Nacional de México de Silvia Lozano” on Feb. 15 and “New Philharmonic: A Salute to Frida” on April 18-19. 

“An Evening with the BoDeans” will take place on Oct. 5, with tickets from $55. 

The MAC will also host “An Evening with Branford Marsalis,” on Oct 12. Tickets range from $59 to $75.

New this year, Salt Creek Ballet will perform their production of “The Nutcracker” with the New Philharmonic Dec. 14 and 15, with tickets costing $34 for children, $44 for adults.
